However, even with all these signs of moral fatigue and shock on Moche’s face, Eliezer does not understand what it means to experience reak fear. No intuition or inner voice tells him that it is high time he did something to protect himself and his family from the tragic consequences of fascism. This fear of disbelief further transcends to the moment when Eliezer finds himself in the concentration camp at Birkenau: â€Å"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealedâ⠂¬  (Wiesel 34). Eliezer speaks of his feelings during the first night at the camp, when the brain still refuses to accept the reality of life. This is when the fear of disbelief suddenly transforms into the fear of the future, the fear of losing life, and the fear of time – time, which is indefinite, endless, but imminent.
